I’ve always struggled with the idea of dry January, one of the main reasons for not giving up the booze is that I’ve never found any alcohol free alternatives I like other than water! Even the flavoured varieties have an unpleasant aftertaste. The alcohol-free market is growing and it’s become a major trend for 2018. A friend introduced me to this wonderfully illustrated bottle, it claims to be the worlds first distilled non-alcoholic spirit. There are two varieties, Seedlip Garden 108 and Seedlip Spice 94. Founder Ben Branson distils in his kitchen in the woods, with a copper still to continue his family’s 300-year farming ancestry, he wants to change the way the world drinks. Described as a herbal blend of hand-picked Peas & homegrown Hay with Spearmint, Rosemary and Thyme from Ben’s Farm with distillates in celebration of the English countryside. The website suggests various combinations, you can drink it like gin with tonic or in a martini or other cocktails. The first combination I tried was with tonic over ice with a sprinkling of peas. This is so refreshing with hints of fresh green grass and herby notes. Definitely on my drinks list.
- Seedlip Garden 108 with Tonic & Peas
The second combination I tasted was the stunning Seedily Garden Sour, I loved this, it looks so luscious and indulgent, with the addition of lemon juice and cider vinegar gives it a lovely sour kick.
- Seedlip Sour
In summary, this is a winner for me, an absolute bonus is that it’s calorie, sugar and sweetener free with no artificial flavours or allergens. I’ll definitely be ordering this on a night out with friends.
