Swedish Glögg (mulled wine)

Glögg is a crucial part of the lead up to Christmas in Sweden with parties thrown throughout Advent and always served on 13th December, St Lucia day. Many Swedes attend several glögg parties every weekend in December! Glögg is the Swedish version of mulled wine, but it is not quite the same as mulled wine, the spices differ…

  • Just back from a wonderful day visiting Buddhist temples in the #anuradhapurakingdom. A truly beautiful and tranquil place, so you’ve probably worked out that I am writing this post whilst on holiday in Sri Lanka. This one I prepared earlier - Spiced chicken with red cabbage slaw and yogurt flat breads. Find the recipe on my blog, link in my bio.

  • I’ve spent the whole day sorting through cupboards, bagging clothes up for the charity shop and having a general tidy up. Time for a well deserved glass of wine and with a box of wild mushrooms given to me in the week (tack mamma @evakristinao 😘) dinner is sorted.

  • Okay so I’ve jumped on the Valentines band wagon 💖but I had to put the lingonberries to good use! And who doesn’t like a waffle with whipped cream anyway? .

  • Lingonberries look so delicious in their natural form however they are really tart and slightly bitter raw, adding sugar transforms them into something that goes incredibly well with game, meat, and desserts. I love them in their simplest form, steeped in a little sugar, in Sweden this is called ‘Rårörda Lingon’ and eaten with a cultured milk ’Filmjölk’ similar to Kefir. They are also jam packed with antioxidants and body enhancing phytonutrients.

  • Hands up if you think baking bread is a long winded exercise? Wrong, it doesn’t have to be. This healthy loaf was made from start to finish in a little over an hour!
I’ve adapted this recipe (given to me by my Mormor, granny) It’s Swedish ‘Limpa’ I’ve added seeds and nuts and used kefir instead of the Swedish filmjölk, a cultured milk, it’s so good.

  • I had fully intended on spending the morning doing admin, getting ahead on a few blog posts and doing some general housekeeping on my PC, no such luck, my computer is not playing ball😖🤬 I think I just need to walk away and hope for the best this afternoon😬
Now I have time I didn’t think I’d have to make myself a decent lunch, a rummage in the freezer resulted in finding frozen peas and broad beans. Soup it is then🥣
